S4 ‘Qualifications, Courses & Careers’ workshop x2
S5 ‘Typical Student Week’ workshop
Hawick High School, Scottish Borders
If you would like to sign up for this workshop please email me at alice.c.smith@ed.ac.uk
The meeting time is 7.15 at the LEAPS office and you will be back around 15.30 (approx).
There will be two S4 workshops, followed by an extra lunchtime S5 workshop and because it is a bit of a trip away, we will be throwing in lunch in Hawick. Who says we never treat you!
For a summary of the S4 workshop please see below:
This is the fast moving quiz style workshop where you assist a group of S4 pupils (14-15 year olds) with the various rounds of the quiz including the very competitive ‘university course – true or false’ and the popular ‘spot the student’ round. Your job is to encourage the pupils to discuss the questions and reach agreement as a group. The workshop also often stimulates other questions from pupils relating to university life.
For a summary of the S5 workshop please see below:
For the S5 workshop you will be working with a small group of S5 pupils (15-16 year olds). The pupils have to find out as much as they can about your typical week at university and plot your activities on a weekly planner. They also calculate how many hours you spend on each activity per week. For this exercise it is best if you can tell the group about your first year at university but if you can’t remember that in much detail then your current timetable will do nicely!
Alice and Sarah will be attending these workshops, and so far the following students have signed up:
Aine, Katherine B, Eve M, John Mc, Lyn E,
