Tuesday 22 February, 1.20-3.10 (PLEASE NOTE:this has been cancelled by school)
S5 Typical Student Week AND
S6 Getting by on Student Budget workshops
Alloa Academy, Alloa
Apologies for the short notice on this one but the school let us know know today (Fri 18 Feb) that their prelims have been moved to this date. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. This workshop will be rescheduled to sometime in March.
If you would like to sign up for this workshop please email me on claire.aitchison@ed.ac.uk. The meeting time is 11.45 at the LEAPS office and you will be back around 4.30.
As you might notice we are delivering 1 workshop after another on this day at Alloa. Given our limits with transport if you are travelling with LEAPS you would have to attend both workshops (S5 and S6). However if you are based in or around Stirling uni, have your own transport and would prefer to attend just the first workshop (S5) from 1.20-2.15 of just the second workshop from 2.15-3.10 (S6) then that is fine. Please just let me know when you email me.
For a summary of the S5 and S6 workshops please see below;
S5
For the S5 workshop you will be working with a small group of S5 pupils (15-16 year olds). The pupils have to find out as much as they can about your typical week at university and plot your activities on a weekly planner. They also calculate how many hours you spend on each activity per week. For this exercise it is best if you can tell the group about your first year at university but if you can’t remember that in much detail then your current timetable will do nicely!
S6
During the S6 workshop you will be working with a small group of S6 pupils (16-17 year olds) on a student case study. The pupils in your group have to discuss and work out with the aid of a calculator, what the case study student’s expenditure is for a typical week at university. They also have to discuss and figure out what income their case study student has available to them during the academic year to pay for their student lifestyle. Your role is to make sure the group is working together, discussing the case study and reaching agreement before writing down their answers. More importantly, we would also like you to share with your pupils your own experiences of getting by on a student budget.
