S6 ‘ Getting by on a Student Budget’ workshop

As it’s a bit further to travel we will be running both the S4 and S6 workshop one after another. As it’s a bit of a longer stint for you we will provide breakfast or lunch or both!For a summary of the S4 and S6 workshops please see below;
S4
This is the fast moving quiz style workshop where you assist a group of S4 pupils (14-15 year olds) with the various rounds of the quiz including the very competitive ‘university course – true or false’ and the popular ‘spot the student’ round. Your job is to encourage the pupils to discuss the questions and reach agreement as a group. The workshop also often stimulates other questions from pupils relating to university life.
S6
During the S6 workshop you will be working with a small group of S6 pupils (16-17 year olds) on a student case study. The pupils in your group have to discuss and work out with the aid of a calculator, what the case study student’s expenditure is for a typical week at university. They also have to discuss and figure out what income their case study student has available to them during the academic year to pay for their student lifestyle. Your role is to make sure the group is working together, discussing the case study and reaching agreement before writing down their answers. More importantly, we would also like you to share with your pupils your own experiences of getting by on a student budget.
Alice and Roy will be leading this workshop and Roy will also be driving a minibus down so there will plenty of space for lots of volunteers!!!!
