1 December, S3 event @ Edin Uni, 9-12 CANCELLED!

Wedneday 1 December, 9-12 (this event had been cancelled due to snow!)
S3 Campus Reporter
Castlebrae Community High School at Edinburgh University

Please note that this event has been cancelled due to bad weather. Apologies for any inconvenience. It will be rescheduled for a date in January or February 2011.

This is the fast moving quiz style workshop where you assist a group of S4 pupils (14-15 year olds) with the various rounds of the quiz including the very competitive ‘university course – true or false’ and the popular ‘spot the student’ round. Your job is to encourage the pupils to discuss the questions and reach agreement as a group. The workshop also often stimulates other questions from pupils relating to university life.

If you would like to sign up for this workshop please email me on claire.aitchison@ed.ac.uk. As this event involves you escorting a small group of pupils around Edinburgh University’s central campus you need to either be a student at the university or be familiar with the campus.

The meeting time is 9am at the Cabaret Bar at the Pleasance where we will have a short briefing before the school arrives. The finish time will be 12 noon.

For a summary of the S3 Campus Reporter event please see below;

This is the campus based event where the pupils use hand held video cameras around campus. After the usual ice breaking activity we split the pupils into small teams and set the scene. They are to act as researchers and reporters and will produce a short ‘TV news show’ by the end of the event assisted by you and the LEAPS staff. Each news team has a different ‘angle’ to report on and they use the video camera to record interviews and footage around campus which will be included in the final news show.

After a short break at Potter Row cafĂ© the pupils return to the base room which is set up like a TV studio – if you use your imagination! The news show is then broadcast with 2 pupils acting as the newsreaders who introduce each clip created by each of the news teams.

Most of the LEAPS team will be involved with this one and so far the following volunteers have signed up;

Emma FW
