Wednesday 12 May, 9-11 or 9-12 (4-6 volunteers required)
S3 'Campus Reporter'
Liberton HS at Edinburgh University
If you would like to sign up for this one please email me on claire.aitchison@ed.ac.uk. As this event involves you escorting a small group of pupils around Edinburgh University it is useful if you are familiar with Edinburgh University's George Square campus but as we provide a full briefing before the school arrives, any volunteer from any university can take part.
The event will start at 9am at the Cabaret Bar at the Pleasance. You will finish at 12noon although it is possible to finish earlier, at 11am, if it suits you better. For a summary of the S3 Campus Reporter event please see below;
This is the campus based event where the pupils use hand held video cameras around campus. After the usual ice breaking activity we split the pupils into small teams and set the scene. They are to act as researchers and reporters and will produce a short ‘TV news show’ by the end of the event assisted by you and the LEAPS staff. Each ‘news team’ has a different ‘angle’ to report on and they use the video camera to record interviews and footage around campus which will be included in the final ‘news show’.
After a short break at Potter Row union (around 11am) the pupils return to the base room which is set up like up like a TV studio - if you use your imagination! The news show is then ‘broadcast’ with 2 pupils acting as the TV presenters who introduce each of the clips created by each of the news teams.
Most of the LEAPS team will be involved with one and so far the following volunteers have signed up;
