Twitter project

OK, a different type of activity from the usual workshops...

I’m working on a project to help final year school students get a clearer picture of the ‘everyday business’ of student life. To do this we’re going to encourage school students to follow the Twitter feed of a number of current undergraduates. We also hope to provide the opportunity for school students and volunteers to get involved in online discussion.

We haven’t set a date for this yet, but it’s likely that it would take place for a week during March.

If you’re interested, here’s what you’d be expected to do:
- Take some photographs that reflect your everyday life as a student (don’t worry, you don’t have to appear in the photos!) and then provide a short audio track to accompany the pictures. This will provide a 2-minute film so that school students who follow you have a sense of what you’re all about.
- Tweet about 5 messages per day for 5 days, reflecting what you’re doing at different stages of the day.
- Answer online questions from school students.

You don’t need to have any Twitter experience and if you’re already a Twitter user we’d set up a new account so that you can keep your personal Tweets, personal.

This is probably best suited to students in year 2 or 3 of undergraduate study and we’re probably looking for about 2 or 3 students in total from a range of different universities and subject areas.

If this interests you, send me an e-mail at james.lamb@ed.ac.uk and I’ll give you some additional background information, including a link to the website where we trialled the project at the end of last year. Should be fun.
