4 December, S3 Student for a day, Edinburgh Uni, 9.30-12

Thursday 4 December, 9.30-12noon (7 or 8 volunteers required)
S3 'Student for a Day' event
Broughton HS at Edinburgh University

This is the recently updated Student for a Day event using hand held video cameras. (RIP our little polaroid cameras!!).

After the usual ice breaking activity we split the pupils into small teams and set the scene. They are to act as reseachers and reporters and will produce a short 'TV news show' by the end of the event assisted by you and the LEAPS staff.

Each news team is tasked with gathering general background info on the university as they explore the campus with you but they also have a second task which involves them working on a specific 'angle' or news item eg. The 'Role of the Students Association' or 'the study environment', etc. They have to use the video camera to record interviews and footage to support their news item for inclusion in the final 'news show'. After a break at the student union pupils return to the base room which is set up like a TV studio (you have to use your imagaination here!). The 'news show' is then broadcast with 2 pupils acting as TV presenters who introduce each of the clips created by the news teams. Sounds exciting eh ?

The event is open to Edinburgh Uni students but also to those who are familiar with the George Square area.

The meeting time for this workshop is 9am at the Cabaret Bar at the Pleasance and you’ll be finished by 12.00. If you are interested in signing up for this workshop please drop me an email claire.aitchison@ed.ac.uk.
